Event > Gumboot Rally
A few months ago I was invited to take part in the third running of the Gumboot Rally, but with my looming deadline for the first round of the IRC Series at Labour Weekend, I was unable to take another weekend off to attend. Since the event was starting at Hamilton's Jukebox Diner and Classics Museum, I decided to head down on Saturday morning to catch a glimpse and take a few quick photos.
To be honest, I had no idea what to expect, and had pretty much assumed it would be a bunch of regular looking cars gathering for a weekend of casual road rally cruising. How wrong I was!
The event had a very interesting theme to it, based around the idea of competitors being part of a Zombie Outbreak Response Team in the Gumboot Rally Army.
Not only did the organisers provide plenty of very professional looking promo stickers, handouts and various objects for the rally...
...but the entrants went to huge amounts of effort too with amazing vehicle graphics, modifications and outfits.
After a brief introduction by event organiser Andy Smith, everyone hopped into their cars to begin the first leg of their mission.
I don't know the full details of what transpired over the next two days, but the feedback I've seen suggests that it was certainly a lot of fun.
I've heard whispers of the theme and date for the next Gumboot Rally event, and it sounds like it's right up my alley. I've never been part of a road rally before, so this might be my chance!
Check out the Gumboot Rally website for more info about this event, and see what these crazy cats up are to next!
