Gallery > Taupo Car Club Labour Weekend National Race Meeting (Part 1)
Taupo Motorsport Park was the venue once again over Labour Weekend for the opening round for many of the Independent Race Classes (IRC), including Super Mini Challenge, Formula First, NZGT, Pre 65's, NZ Six, GT1/GT2, Porsche Racing Series, NZ Sports Cars, and of course my own class - the Mazda Pro7 Racing Series.
When I headed out onto the track for my first test session on the Friday, it occurred to me that I hadn't raced here for around 18 months, so it took a few laps to get used to the breaking points and apexes again.
I spent as much time out on the circuit over the Friday, Saturday and Sunday as I could to ensure I had plenty of practice behind the wheel, and also to run in my freshly rebuilt engine.
This meant that I didn't really get a chance to take any on-track photos, but I did manage to snap a few shots as I wandered around the pits between races.
There are always a few lovely road cars to be spotted in the carpark too, like this 964 model Porsche 911 wearing Gulf colours.
The Motul Honda Cup were also invited to this Taupo Car Club-organised event, and their numbers were very strong as usual.
Thankfully Andrew Tierney was on hand to provide a few shots of each of the classes in action, so together we are able to present a nice photographic summary of the weekend...
Pre 65 Racing
NZ Sports Cars
Super Mini Challenge
Mazda Pro7 Racing...
...which included the MX5 Racing NZ class to keep the old Series 1s on their toes...
... as well as the newly introduced RX-8s.
And finally the highly entertaining 'Allcomers' class.
The Mazda Pro7 Racing results for the weekend have just been emailed through to me, so Part 2 will include these, as well as more photos from the weekend.
